The Most Obvious Secret Invasion in History

Communications blackouts of the Gaza invasion haven’t precluded satellite photos and front page headlines

The IDF is trying to be stealthy about its invasion of Gaza with media and regional blackouts, perhaps hoping to keep Hamas guessing, preclude the war escalating, and mitigate the deteriation of global public opinion.

Despite the paucity of official information and the severing of communications throughout Gaza, satellite images of the incursion are online, and the bombing of refugee camps is today’s front page news.

Israel’s goal is killing Hamas leadership and as many of their minions as possible, preferably all of them. Palestinian civilians are dying by the thousands, Israel considering them Hamas’ fault for using them as shields.

Never paying much attention to the court of public opinion, the Israelis will only ratchet up their ground invasion. So far the US is playing ball, but how long until the “disagreements among friends” becomes overt and acute?

The Israeli ground invasion is a mistake. Even if they “destroy Hamas,” the wake of death and destruction in Gaza will only fuel the forces that put them in power in the first place, and create generations more radicals.

Along the way, Israel becomes increasingly vulnerable throughout its other fronts, the risk of escalation into a regional conflict grows, and antisemitism throughout the world exponentially rises.

The October 7th attack never should have happened. Israel needs to secure its borders, fix its internal discord and polarization, and accept the obvious: The Palestinians aren’t going anywhere.

Instead, thousands and soon tens of thousands of IDF troops will be quagmired in Gaza, the entire country will remain more vulnerable than ever, and the core grievances and root causes will remain unaddressed.

Netanyahoo has got to go, stat. As long as he’s in charge, any glimmer of hope remains extinguished. New leadership, at least different leadership, might pave a reasonable way out of this mess.
