Iran Shows Its Hand

Calming Hezbollah is a sign they anticipate a debilitating war in Gaza

Iran showed its cards today by chilling out Hezbollah. Two US carrier groups moved to the region no doubt helped.

Iran doesn’t want to go mano-a-mano with Israel, because they know war will escalate into direct US involvement.

Anticipating a formal declaration of war along the Lebanese border, Israel instead will hit the gas even harder in Gaza.

The next week or two of fighting will prove absolutely pivotal for the fate of the region for years, likely decades.

Early advances by the IDF seem hopeful for a quicker end, but the urban warfare within Gaza City is only just beginning.

All Israel’s enemies are watching the invasion unfold, and hoping for a months-long, perhaps years-long quagmire.

Iran commanding Hassan Nasrallah to cool it seems like a sign they believe the invasion will get ugly, fast.

Thus they won’t have to risk war with the US to watch Israel weaken militarily, and in the court of global opinion.

Let’s hope the Mullahs are wrong about the ground invasion, but as I’ve been raging, I don’t think so.

I hope I’m wrong, too. But Gaza seems like Fallujah and Mosul x1,000, not good signs for Israel, the Palestinians, or the world.
