Free Market TikTokism
The best case scenario is for TikTokUS to die and be replaced by a new app
The Supreme Court just ruled that banning TikTokUS and forcing it to sell to an American company is constitutional.
Trump immediately weighed in — and has presumably already discussed this on his call today with Xi — saying he will decide the app’s fate.
My prediction is Trump will “save” TikTok, albeit with potentially absurd provisos, including something to do with his buddy, Musk.
Meanwhile, will 170 million people migrate to REDnote? Many frustrated Gen Zers have, but I doubt the “protest vote” will stick.
Instagram and YouTube and their host companies are already tired in the space, and younger users are allergic to migrating there.
That all said, IMHO the best case scenario would be for a new, better, American app to replace TikTok entirely. That can’t happen overnight, but would be ideal.
Such a new app would incorporate the latest AI, and draw from the best practices acquired from all the other apps, especially TikTok.
The world needs more competition, as does the States — especially in tech, where the capital investment is such a steep curve. Let’s see what happens!
